I flew in for this Convention which was not very eventful and I was picked up by Kurt and Platoribs. At the hotel they had brought the Ninja Turtle SHO into the hotel! This car had a huge rear sway bar which looked to be around 1.25":

We later had a Convention overview with Pizza! It was pretty good. Don had brought in his cut away SHO motor. Al English then gave a presentation on making cut away motors. He made the SHO cutaway motor and was the one who sold Don the motor. He was as methodical about his presentation as he was for the engine cut aways. Ford had also brought in 2 2011 SHOs to SHOw off which looked the same as 2010.

Afterwards some went out to the parking lot for hanging out and drinks. Some got ready for tomorrows car SHOw.

There were quite a few SHOs at the Car SHOw:

2010 SHOs:

Raising Crank Cancer Awareness (goes to funds for Beth):

6 piston Goodness:

The Aluminum Sable!

It was cool talking with some of the Ford guys there.

The Sable features an all aluminum body for weight savings of almost 400lbs. 20 were built and then tested and destroyed. Another 20 were driven on the road and this is one of the remaining few.

The 2002 SHO:

After the SHOw we went over to the Ford Headquarters to see a presentation on the new SHO:
Image
Image

The new Explorer:
Image

They features many cut aways of the parts from the new SHO:
Image
Image
Image

They gave us a good bagged lunch and then talked about the new SHO. They went over the differences in the motor and compared it to other brands. The did say that the Eco Boost will go into the F150 and we will see the I4 Eco Boost in other models. They did hint at a possible 400hp SHO in the near future.
Image
Image
Image

After the presentation we got to mull around and talk with Ford people and even Edsel Ford came out to look at the SHOs!
Image
Image

They also took a picture of all the SHO owners as well as the SHOs.
Image

After that we drove to the Ford proving grounds whre we were not allowed to bring our cameras due to all of the prototype cars running around. They did take a picture of each car there though.
Image

We then went to the Automotive Hall of Fame where they did have a Mob Steel SHO there on display. It was interesting to read about all of teh people that made automotive history and how they contributed. They talked about the formation of GM and the only reason why Ford was not part of it is that Ford wanted too much for it. Also they talked about how the Dodge brother provided engines for Ford before going on to build they own cars.

Image
Image

Instead of joining the rest of the group for dinner we went to Millers Bar for burgers. It was a place Kurt knew of and so we went there. They just served burgers and fried or onion rings. The burgers came bare and you added the basics. The only beer they had on tap was Miller. You paid on the honor system. The burgers were very good.

Wednesday was racing at Waterford Hills. I didn't bring my SHO so I planned to ride with anyone I could to make up for no SHO. We got there early as Kurt was racing and needed to get ready.

After the track information everyone got to racing!

I got to ride with platoribs who I also roomed with. He was pretty good driver. I did get some pictures while on the track:
Image
Image

We even passed a few people:
Image
Image

I even took a video but it is not a steady. It gives you an idea of how much I got thrown around though:
Image

After that I also rode in the 86 SHO and I rode with Area 91. I also rode with Kurt who was driving James' SHO as well. Lastly I rode in a blue SHO ( forget his name) only to have him spin his rod bearings. Rod bearings seem to not like me.

There were some break downs like when Area 91 activated the inertia relay:
Image

We did have a tragedy though. One of the members did crash a 350Z. He had hit the rumble strips (more like huge waves of cement) and lost control. He then crashed into the wall. We was fine though and was able to walk away.

Once the racing was done everyone headed back to the hotel to go get dinner. We decided to try some BBQ that was okay. We could of done better. After that it was just hanging out in the parking lot.

On Thursday most people went to the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village and Ford Factory tour. I went to the Museum and the Village. You could easily spend the whole day there. When we go there the Falcon guys showed up as they were having their Convention as well. All of the various types were there.

We then went to the Henry Ford Museum. It is more about all mechanical devices and their history. There was a lot of differen't things to see. They did have a lot of Ford history but they did have other makes and models.

The architecture of the building was very nice as well:
Image

The Weinermobile:
Image

Did you know Ford made planes?
Tri motor plane:
Image
Image

The first hybrid:
Image

The concept car for the Mustang:
Image

The Ford that Henry Ford raced:
Image

The first flat head V8:
Image

First helicopter:
Image

Largest train:
Image

I then went over to the Greenfield Village which was a village themed around the time of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison to show how a lot of things were made then as well as to have a lot of the various famous peoples locations like their home or Menlo Park.

Machine shop with power being distributed via leather belts:
Image

Ford was an engineer for Edison at Menlo Park up until he got into making cars. Ford had some of the original buildings transported to Greenfield.
Menlo Park:
Image

In the picture you see the chair that is towards the left. They had Edison come over for an anniversary and he sat in that chair. Once he got up they nailed down the chair and it has remained since.
Image
Edison was great inventor but he was not able to do everything so he surrounded himself with many capable and talented people to help carry out experiments and fabricate new parts. Basically he developed the first think tank.

Some of the cars they have running around:
Image

Cut away of an early engine and transmission:
Image

I got a ride back with Huntervf to the hotel to get ready for the banquet. Saw one of the common sights at the convention, a SHO being worked on:
Image

The Banquet was fun. They had a few speakers from Ford to talk about changes to the SHO which they were very vague. They gave little detail but they did mention it would get lighter and some more styling to separate it form the Taurus. They also gave SHO shirts to everyone as well as a larger scale 1:24 SHO Car.
Image

Image

Ford had taken a helmet from Ken and gave it a new paint job and then had everyone at Ford sign it. It was then auctioned off for which Don won!
Image

Some items were actioned off for Beth's eye surgery:
Image

Things didn't get too crazy:
Image

Also a SHO banner was signed by everyone present and then auctioned off and was then given to Ford:
Image

It was a lot of fun:

Afterwards everyone went to the parking lot to hang out. Later on Me and Kurt drove Beth home.

On Friday there was much going on as most were leaving or going to other activities.

The SHO I rod in still needed rod bearings:
Image

Me and Kurt got to ride in BigJim's CTS V to Millers bar for lunch. It was a very nice ride...

We then went to the airport to head home. Hopefully next year I can drive in. It was a lot of fun and well worth it.
